PSB vs NAB | SEKISUI 5200 Waterproof PE Foam Tape Selection Guide
PSB and NAB both belong to the SEKISUI 5200 series of ultra-thin independent-cell PE foam double-sided tapes. They look alike, are both black and both use acrylic adhesive. They differ in positioning, thickness range, adhesion level and toluene content. Below is a point-by-point comparison based on the manufacturer's technical data.
1. Side-by-side comparison
| Item | PSB (specially waterproof) | NAB (medium strength) |
|---|---|---|
| Series positioning | Specially waterproof | Medium strength |
| Thickness range | 0.15-1.10 mm (150-1100 μm) | 0.10-0.25 mm (100-250 μm) |
| Models | 9 (5215PSB-52110PSB) | 4 (5210NAB-5225NAB) |
| 90° adhesion (SUS) | 23.6-62.8 N/25mm | 15.5-28.7 N/25mm |
| Holding power at 40℃ | 0.0-0.3 mm | 0.2 mm |
| Toluene | Trace | Toluene-free |
| Width | 980 mm | 980 mm |
| Roll length | ≤50 m | 50 m |
2. How to choose (selection order)
Step 1 - thickness: For the thinnest gauges (0.10-0.25 mm) both types work (NAB starts at 0.10 mm). For 0.30 mm and up, to 1.10 mm, only PSB is available.
Step 2 - adhesion: For stronger tack and peel resistance, choose PSB (at 0.25 mm: 33.6 vs 28.7 N/25mm). For delicate substrates or a softer removable bond, choose NAB.
Step 3 - toluene: If the process requires a toluene-free formulation (indoor products, odour-sensitive applications), choose NAB.
Step 4 - environment: For water and dust sealing with thicker gauges, take PSB.
3. What they share
Both use an ultra-thin independent-cell PE foam substrate with acrylic adhesive and a release liner; both absorb impact, seal against water and dust, bond on narrow widths and resist peeling on curved surfaces; both suit fixing on uneven surfaces and removable applications; both can be die-cut, punched, slit and laminated with release or carrier film.
4. FAQ
Q: Does thicker mean stickier? Broadly within a type - PSB rises from 23.6 N/25mm at 0.15 mm to 62.8 N/25mm at 0.90 mm - but thickness mainly governs conformability and impact absorption, so start from your design gap and then compare adhesion.
Q: Is there a flame-retardant grade? SEKISUI's 5200 series documentation states no UL94 or similar flame-retardant approval, and we make no such claim for this series.
Q: Can you supply samples? Yes - die-cut to drawing or slit to narrow widths, with a sample first to confirm bonding.
